Syracuse area
« on: Jan 06, 2017, 12:20 AM »
Hey guys just wondering how the ice is doing out that way. I'm a couple hours away, work is slow and thinking about heading out that way early next week. Any feedback greatly appreciated thanks.

have not been out that way since the warmup and rain.  Ice was OK before that, but have not seen anyone on the main lake at wawasee yet.  If it did not open up due to warmup and rain, there should be ok ice, but like many places finding a place to park to access the lake is the big challenge.

What do u consider the middle?  The lake is not really round.

Surprised to hear that .  That area had been capped before the first warm-up we had and did not open, then it got cold again before this last warm-up and rain.  Are there geese keeping it open

That Northeast shore of Wawasee never really froze over. Wind has kept it open and the warm rains didn't help.
I have open water on North Shore of Syracuse Lake at the sea wall because of warm runoff and NW winds. The hole out from the RR channel bridge is open from the bridge to the East all the way past the swamp. Guys are getting on from the south shore.

Still open water in a strip about as wide as the road that parallels the shore as far as I could see in both directions about 100 yds out from shore. The ice from shore to the open watervis new as of last night as the spud went right through.   This is in the area just east of wawasee boat company marina.  Going to be some iffy ice out there this year with all these ups and downs in temps.  Hard to believe with a low of 1 degrees that long strip of water remains ice free.
