Is the ice safe or close to safe anywhere on the lake?

Doubt it, only Ice ive heard about so far is on budd lake and lake hopatcong. If it comes to it, I'll make the two hour hike just to be able to say that I drilled a hole. May have better luck calling a local baitshop in the Clinton area. If you hear anything, give me a shout

Safest bet would be Budd Lake for now

Hopatcong you could probably hit up couple of places this weekend but still I suggest be on a safe side.

Both Spruce and Round has ways to go but beach area at Round might lock up.

Regardless be safe any place you choose.

Two weeks ago spruce was starting to lock up in the coves. As of a few days ago its was basically all open. It's going to be a while before you can get out on it

I live a mile up the road and can see spruce run from my tree stand.  Totally open as of last night, guys, unfortunately.  I'll keep eyes on it and keep you informed.  But yea, there were boats out there as of last weekend.

Wind isnt helping but then again it's been in the 40s and 50s for the past week which is a bigger issue. Hopefully the cold weather sticks around this time

I doubt there's any fish left in SR after it was drained down dramatically last summer/fall. It's currently listed at being at 38% capacity (Round Valley is 66%). Good news is if you fall through the ice by the damn, it's only like 4ft deep there now.

Still some deep water just all of the shallow coves are dry. If anything it will concentrate all of the fish. Could be an epic year if we get ice on it.
