Whattcha' catch this winter?
« on: Feb 10, 2006, 04:42 PM »
I'm a new member to this truely awsome site unfortunately for me because I would have enjoyed being in the iceshant tourney a lot and my team would probably have been happy with my catch so far this winter.
This ice season so far I have caught:
9lb10oz. Lake trout 31''  (peronal biggest) ;D
8.5lb Walleye 29'' (17'' in girth) (personal biggest) ;D
1.1lb Speckle (persoal biggest) ;D
6lb Pike
These are the nicest of the fish I've caught this year. How is your ice fishing season going? ???

My season is going well.....no truely monstrous fish, but I can't complain.  It's my first year up at college, so I'm just learning these waters.

Biggest fish was a 35" 10 lb. pike, a personal best (so far  ;) )...[/li]
Walleye 21"....nothing special, but still a nice fat fish.[/li]
Tons and tons and tons and tons of perch, including a lot of really nice ones![/li]
18" Largemouth, which is my biggest through the ice, but not nearly my biggest ever.[/li]
I've gotten a few small browns, but have only gone out once for them.

While I was home I did well on the pickerel and perch, and also found some time to catch a bunch of crappies, bluegills and 'seeds.

Bunch of smelt too, which are fun.  The other night we (Pikie and I) jigged up 70 in an hour and 1/2... fished ALL OVER my Vex![/li]
The nice thing about this season is that I've fished with a bunch of guys from IceShanty that I've never had the opportunity to fish with...So far this season, I've fished with Pikie, Hood, Caroga Kid, Coldbum, Robb, Ozzy, Beermaster, Baginwal, and most recently, BCJenson...I hope to get out with a bunch more IceShanty members before this year is over!  Especially some of the guys I've already fished with, including Bussman, Fishingking, Slipbob, and Bigredonice... Tell me when guys, and I'll do my darndest to be there! 8)

I've got a really bad case of couch a$$, due to the lack of ice here in Northwest Indiana!!! Usually this time of year, It's a bad case of "bucket back" from sitting on that darn bucket for so long. Would much rather have "bucket back" than "couch a$$" and time is running out for us "Hoosiers" to get back on the ice!!! C-ya. Crappie Rob.
Lets Go Cubs. Bring on the baseball season!!!

In the 11 trips I put in before spring showed up in Jan.  We caught many nice pike, walleyes gills, perch and bass.  My favorite pike lake has barely had ice in coves and on the shoreline.  I have put more time in preparing the boat for summer than sitting on frozen lakes fishing.  That is really sad.  I have even broke down and started helping my fiance make wedding plans.  Isn't that sad?

23" Walleye
19" Largemouth
12" Perch
17" Smallie
Some small perch, gills, crappie, and pickerel.

Been a real bad year, I haven't been able to get out much at all, and Lake George just refuses to freeze. :'(

:'( The most I've managed to catch this so far this winter was a slight cold.  ;D  Locally too much ice for the boat not enough for safe ice fishing, till now, but plan on going tomorrow. If not then at least one day this week and probably both.  I hope !

Made out well on early ice splake with a few in the 18 inch range and many other shorties ( caroga kid brought in several trophy class splake too)

A nice 26 and 3/4 in Pickerel, and 5 or 6 others over 20 in.
A ton of Perch (thanks to the vexilar) none of great size though.
21 inch  3.7 lb eye from Simon pond, and a couple dozen short ones from the Sacandaga
a couple dozen gills/sunnies/crappies  no huge ones but plenty in sushi grade as our friend slipbob says!
One legal laker at 24" and a bunch of shorties :(   (come on king freeze)

It has not been a great season by any means ( weather ) ( the bite )  but I have fished every week at least 2 times :)  My freezer has some fish for the family, fished with new iceshanty members and old fishing pals!  I can not believe we have at least a month or more of fishing yet! It can only get better from here!
