There are crayfish in that reservoir, and I figured that the ginger colored jigs look like a soft-shelled crawdad.  The black look a lot like a leech, and the white ones look like small minnows or fry. 

We also use small tube jigs that are colored like minnows.  They were called minnow squirts on one website.  They have a belly on them, and really look alive.

hey people can any one recomend a good brand of wind tip up i was thinking of adding a few this year to my polar tip ups and heritage laker tip ups im looking for a brand thak will out last me not a fall apart chepo that will snap on the first day of use  lol not that a good tip up attracts good fish just learned over the years why buy 10 chepo things that end up costing more in the long run

well a little suggestion, I would stay away from spoons, even if there small, stick with even smaller hooks

I catch hundreds of trout every year and have for twenty five years.
Barbless hooks make a huge difference in fish survivial and release.
If you are skilled at all you won't lose many more fish.
It is the way to go in my opinion, however, to each his own. During the open water season I fish with a fly rod and to me the graceful landing and seemless release is as (really more because it is more challenging to me) the hooking and playing of fish.  You get a hook size over say #12 or #10 and hooks with barbs make for an ugly release.

You might try jigging a wooly bugger or some other kind of weighted nymph.
