That's not funny.  I was never able to find a big school last year.  The year before I filled a bucket in 20 min.

I spent most of last year looking for ice that was fit to stand on... almost didn't have time to look for big schools of perch.

I never got a decent day on them either last year, hopefully this year.

The weather had em acting funny and when it finally melted all the ice the bay was littered with thousands of dead ones

The standard was set way too high two years ago when people were hauling off 10,000 lbs a day for weeks. The lake cant maintain that kind of population in one area....populations are down. Still tons of them around and I found them a few times last year when there was safe ice, but not as many.  This is common for whites from what im told. When they first show up in a body of water or new part of the body of water the population booms and then tanks.

I remember as a kid watching the water boil with them as they passed through the mouth of Otter Creek. They'd hit anything you threw at them. I do miss living in that area of VT.

Looks like there will be plenty off ice this year to search for them. I personally enjoy fishing for them in deeper water. It's somewhat more challenging, harder to get a couple hundred pounds, but a little less like fishing in a bucket.
But don't get me wrong if they show up in st Albans bay shallow and thick I'll be there pounding on them!!
