!! UPDATE !! 2006 Fishing licenses ERROR

Well according to my sources there have been issues concerning the 2006 fishing licenses. Our GREAT legislators have goofed again and passed some sort of bill that doesn't make our 2006 licenses good until April 1st.

Well the word that I have got so far is that if you have purchased a new license DO NOT discard your 2005 license because the DNR is going to honor that license until the new one is in effect, according to the legislative act passed, April 1st. But you must have purchased a new license in order for them to consider you alright and not receive a ticket. So we must carry 2 licenses that are in all actuality no good to keep from being in the wrong.

Actually we are one of the few states that have part-time legislators and the pay is not that high. Maybe we get what we pay for?

I read in the Gary Post-Tribune, on Saturday, that the 2005 licenses were good until March 31st. Didn't say anything about having to have a 2006 license to be legal!! So do we have to purchase a 2006 license on March 1, to be legal through March or not? Any updated info is greatly appreciated!! Thanks, Crappie Rob.

I also read somewhere that the 05 license was good until march 31. I guess the way I look at it, i'm gonna need the 06 license anyway so i'll but it at the end of feb., carry both until april 1st, and if I get a ticket, let the judge decide on it after the state explains what morons they are.

Well the scoop is that the DNR regulation book stated that the 2005 license expired on Feb. 28th but due to the Legislative error the license will be good until March 31st.

In previous years the licenses expired the last day of Feb but this year its March 31st and the 2005 license is good until that date.
April 1st the 2006 license is needed to fish legally.

   Sure am glad I don't have to worry about that anymore I bought a lifetime 5 years ago before they increased them the first time. Kicking myself for not getting the hunting too! CW

I am kicking myself for not buying a combo.  25 bucks for a deer tag this year.  In michigan it is 15.  This state can be irritating.

Your state is weird.     Why does the new year for a fishing license start on April 1st in Indiana?  Why not run them for the calendar year Jan to Dec like other states and then there would never be a mix up.

MN goes March to February.

In Wisconsin, in the old days Jan. 1st to Jan. 1st, now any fishing license, purchased before Dec. 31st, is valid until Mar 31st! WDNR, most likely split the difference between the icefishing season, and the season opener , the 1st, Sat. in May. Time to think and reevaluate, for next year!

I, think one could buy a license on 1/1/06 and fish until 3/31/07?  Then again, I'm probably wrong! My wife thinks, I'm wrong most of the time.

New York is October 1st- September 30th

Michigan expires on last day of March, I believe thats why Indiana changed theirs I know they like to follow suit any time Michigan raises the cost of their licenses. As for the legislators it's a great job! Part time and all you can steal! Their not as bad as Washington but they try, with Mitch leading the way!

The reason behind the dates, being the year starting on april 1st is because the state wants to get thier money before april 15th and you are flat broke because the federal gov got it all.
