Good morning shanty folks,

Do any of you own one of these? If so how do you like them?

Looks like a cool idea. I'm always open to trying new equipment. I would probably purchase one and give it a shot, however, the issue I have with it right off the top is the indicator letting you know that a fish is on. I don't know about everything else but there are many occasions on the ice where it's already difficult seeing a flag up let alone a flashing light. Off the top of my head I'm thinking about those days that the sun glares off the snow and it makes it very difficult to see long distances.

Additional $70 for 2 pack... jeeze. I wonder how well that company is doing or what the markup is. If they're backordered I'd assume they're doing well. I enjoy my Black Magic traps. Been great and have had them for a number of years. Clean and lubricate them every year and never have any issues catching fish. I've heard Heritage are good as well. I have a buddy with a set of those and the flag system is quite nice.

I'm telling you, ice fishing options have risen to a whole new level.  At least around here they can't keep RT-9's in stock.  That is a $1700 flasher and add another $550 if you want the camera option.  $2300 for ice fishing electronics??????  Add in the $630 Ion X which is selling faster than fast as well.  They are hard to find in stock.  Mix in a $110 Black Betty reel (which you can't find because they are sold out everywhere) onto your $100 Thorne Bros rod in your $100 Otterbox with $6 Slab Raps and $5 Perch Talkers and haul it all in your $700 portable fish house with your $100 tip ups.

You can easily drop $3000 on this stuff and it is sold out all over the place.  Unbelievable.

Isn't it amazing how some people (with lots of disposable income) will dole out lots of money on "gadgets" that they think will improve their fishing and improve their skills and their catch ratio, and will complain that the "gizmo" is faulty when they suck rocks???

There are some days when I can out-fish my friends with a kiddie rod/reel setup and one crappie jig.

The spool on those looks tiny. Get a good run on a deep trap... have fun reeling that all up. For 1.5 tip ups you could buy a hub shanty. Seems absolutely ludicrous for that price.
Perhaps I should not have been a fisherman, he thought. But that was the thing that I was born for.

There is just something about a classic wooden trap that I will always prefer. All the new stuff is neat, and I would love to experiment with it (if it was offered for half the price), but working with the wood traps will always be tops in my book.

Yeah and I thought my polar tipups are an eyesore. I do use them some though. Seems like a cool, though ugly, idea, but I don't have 100 for tipups.  I got ten old tipups recently from a garage sale, and I am really enjoying restoring them. There seems like a lot that can go wrong with these, interested to hear the reviews though, and wish them luck finding their customers.  Sometimes things sell out because they don't anticipate selling many.

Looks like a great idea but i dont know if i can spend that money on a tip up.

I said the same thing about the stupid round reels and now they are all the rage...have you seen the prices of jigging rods these days????

If there is one thing I have learned, its that ice fisherman love gimmicks.

I will pony up and spend the money when technology comes out that makes catching fish easier...

I look at is as gimmicks are something that is new for the sake of being new and does not make catching fish easier.

They can keep them. I'll keep my $99 and either continue to use my homemade jawjackers or use jawjackers themselves with a good quality rod. Even with a store bought jawjacker and a good quality rod your about half of what these cost.
