The age old question. Where does Mother Nature meet DOW? There's some Goldilocks water near you closer than you think. Let's see if the forum feels like turning that card over for you. Pretty tight lipped bunch in general.
We're born, we live for a while, and then we die.  Sounds like a good reason to go ice fishing.

Head further North!!  Or East!!  Or North-East!!   ;D

Hey Mike, I thought you always suggest to avoid the Boyd!! ::)  But as others have said, Douglas and Boyd should give you a decent chance at perch, crappie, eyes, and bass.  Not sure about ice conditions at either place.  I iced Douglas two years ago, on a mission to find the crappie.  Tried out by the trees and brush, and then off the dam.  Only found bobos.

I used to live in Greeley.  Hit Boyd and, actually, city park in fort collins a lot.  It was close, and I could hit the park after school / work almost every day.  Some city parks have some great fishing in them, if ya don't mind being in the middle of all the crap that goes with being inside city limits.... ::)  Caught my first catfish through the ice at that little pond in the park.  Lot of perch there too.  Trout as well, but it was fun.

Fort Collins does NOT allow any icing in the city ponds. NONE!

City Park lake (Sheldon Lake) is the only place that allows ice fishing in FC --- I'm not sure you'd want to, though.  Not much in there.  None of the FC Natural Areas allow icing.  Man there are a few places I'd like to hit in that town.  Wish they allowed more icing.

Yeah I was gonna say--  We got checked by the game warden on city park pond almost every year, and nothing was said about us not supposed to be there!  We caught mostly trout, but we did get a few other species back then as well (early 2000's).  They would even have part of it blocked off for the ice skaters / hockey players as well.

Talk to the Department of Parks and Wildlife,  they will tell you where people have illegally introduced non-native species and will often encourage you eliminate them often without limits.

Anybody have any extra Dorado fingerlings they'd like to dump in my local lake? Jack Crevalle? Wahoo?

My son and I are wanting to fish Douglas this winter.  I really don't know the structure or depths.. besides the boat ramp do you have any suggestions on where to start?
