Clear Ice Brownie
« on: Feb 03, 2016, 10:11 AM »
Not sure how I always missed this section of the forum, but I just sacrificed my work productivity for a while and watched a bunch.  Great videos on here everyone.

So here's my contribution.  Fish ended up 3.8lbs.  Not his biggest, but its always a thrill for my boys to catch trout through the ice.  His excitement boils over in the last few seconds of the video and you can tell he was trying his hardest to keep his cool...

Love when the youngsters are catching fish through the ice!  I did the same with my kids.  "Keep tension, let 'em run, etc. etc."

That clear ice makes it even more exciting.  Good work.

Thanks gents.  My 12yr old ended up with two browns by the end of the day, both 3.8lbs.  My 5yr old, who was running the video for me, caught his first unassisted brown later that day as well.  It was 2lbs, but really put on a show for him.  It made several runs once it saw the hole, and I just wish I had more space on my phone, because he did an outstanding job, completely on his own.  It was a great day.

I used to target pike exclusively on the ice.  But my boy is a trout bum and got me into it.  Now thats almost all we go after.

Here's an update to this video from last year....

Now my oldest has an "action cam" (gopro, from another brand) and he mounted it on a pole this year to try and get some underwater action of the fish fighting their way in.  Here's one where he catches a smaller brownie, and succeeded in getting some underwater action:

Here's one with a pike that wouldn't quit:

And here's one where he asked me to film and I held the cam the wrong way, so you don't see the pike until the end:

For those of you with young kids that want to get a gopro, but you don't want to drop $300+ on one, check out the cams on amazon called DBPower.  The price is significantly lower than a gopro.  I won't say the video quality is as good, as you see from the videos, but he didn't have it on 1080p, and to me, its well worth it because its so much cheaper.  It comes with the underwater case, and the kids are having a blast with it.

Super job by all, great fun, especially seeing the fish swim by under the ice to see how big it is.

Its been a while, and I forgot I had posted these videos on here.  I love watching everyone elses vid's, so I have a few more to contribute for those who are interested.

A couple years ago my oldest son had a line break as his biggest brown trout was at the hole.  This video is his fight, and at the 3:55 mark you can get a peek at the fish.  We've caught plenty that are 4-6lbs and my guess is that this is a solid 8lb+ fish.  He was heartbroken:

However, like Harry when he traded the van for the scooter strait up, he totally redeemed himself (Dumb and Dumber) last season with a 10.25lb brown.  This is not only his best, but its the biggest brown I've ever seen in person.  I hope I'm wrong, but he might have caught the fish of a lifetime.

This video is a little long, and there's probably some language that isn't safe for kids (other than my own), but at the end you get to see a 10lb brown come up through the hole.
