Big one weekend
« on: Feb 01, 2016, 01:22 PM »
Didn't kill it with the quantity, but the quality was there. Got out of work a little early on Saturday, and had the first trap in at 1:30 pm, stayed till 5pm. One flag, one bass 6.41#.

Got on the ice at 7 am Sunday morning, at about 1:40 pm had to hastily make the decision to abort mission. The ice was black, but it looked like a jigsaw puzzle, flexing and groaning. Best time was from 7-8:30 am, then it shutdown till 1 pm when big boy trap went up. It's a rush in it self when you see the flag up on the trap with the big pondie on it, never mind the line flying off at an angle. I'm surprised I even got the pike on the ice, I downsized all my leaders to 12 lb p line floro,  he had the hook down deep, but the line was stuck in the corner of his mouth. Was going to put it on the scale, but also wanted to release it quick.
Total was 5 LM and 1 pike, biggest bass was 5.97#
A bald eagle hung around for a bit, but I had nothing to offer him, o well.

As I was leaving at 2 pm, there was a guy walking off in front of me, about 10' from shore he went in, both legs to just over the knees, and it was some smelly mud under that thin ice!

The guy at Arlington bait had some nice shiners I will say, has never let me down. I had some pondies stashed for the Bartons gathering, but had to dip into them.

How thick did the ice get at your house?
Beeped at you on your way home Sunday  I went up parkland when you where at light.
I think I'm in your division in golf this year. I'm  back on days got a new partner. Should be a good time.

Someone told me ice fishing was too good to be true. I said, what's the catch?

Thanks men!

Wasn't targeting pike at all, I knew they were in there, but haven't seen one in a long time. It was really a by catch. At first I thought I had the bass of a lifetime. It put up a nice tug o war battle.

4" in the middle, but had 20' of open water around the edges. Had to take a crawdad to get to it.

I may do the Mt. Hood league this year so I don't have to rush home from work to make the tee time at Gannon, not sure yet.

The fishing was good; it was the catching that was bad.
