Not sure if it's anyone on here but there's a house on Levitts landing that went through the ice.

always knew building a hut on a platform from a pontoon boat was a good idea. The pontoons would glide through the snow, and if the ice ever went out the hut wouldn't sink or sit in the water and get ruined. But, that would "Never" happen..... oh, wait. nevermind.  ;D

Always thought this would work well too... wonder why you don't see it often... maybe just to high of the ice.

People with their houses out have to be concerned the way this week is going...

Do people not look at the weather before they bring there houses out?! They've been predicting weather in the 40's since last week... The ice is already pretty thin on most lakes.

My father-in-law built one somewhat like this a few years back, on metal piping rather than pontoons but similar concept.
It would glide like a breeze across the ice ... but MAN was it impossible to turn. So as long as you are heading straight out and back  ;)

If it has any opening, it might serve as a nice structure for holding fish.

I have seen a surprising amount of hard sides on trailers down here in southern nh in the past two weeks, going somewhere?

I was hoping that they all knew something that I didn't...

thats part of the beauty where we are at (Cummings Beach). Our houses are monitored daily and when needed we can yank em back to shore in a heart beat.

i'm waiting for the one i keep seeing on channel 9 in meredith bay to go for a swim. this morning it looked as though it was more or less surrounded by open water. it was hard to tell from the video though. if they don't get that one outta there, there's a good chance it'll go through too.

Yup, thats part of the pain of owning a hard side and the responsibility.

You need to check them often (not necessarily on your schedule) or have a good infrastructure in place (good group of people) that will check them for you when you can't.

Owning a Hard side isn't a "set it and forget it" type of thing unfortunately. Plus it's easier to take care of them when they are on the ice instead of in the drink.

i hear ya... but since my wife bought me mine, if I sold it I'd be toast! Unless of course I bough her a new snowmobile, that would keep me in the clear.

That is unfortunate, I hope that they can salvage there house and that there luck will change for the remainder of the season.

Our house is on a good solid 9-10 right now but the edges will not fair so well next week.... So I am yanking it out on Sunday. I have had a few good weekends with the family so it was worth it. Maybe it will get colder late season

If that is Leavitt Beach in Meredith...by the looks of pic it is most likely only in a couple of feet of water.
