Ice Noise
« on: Jan 21, 2016, 07:47 PM »
I had a job up on this private lake today. Brought my gear and managed to get out when I was done at around 4 pm. Caught one 20" Eye and had a few fish on the vex looking. Even the the one I caught was hesitant.
The thing is the ice was constantly popping and cracking and I had a guy tell me when the lake is that noisy, fish will bite less if at all. The time he said that we caught nothing and it was probably the noisiest ice I have ever been on.
Just like to here others thoughts and experiences.

The ice was popping pretty good today. But there was also a very high barometer today..
I think that had a lot to do with the fish biting..  ;D

In my experience, when the ice starts booming, the fish start biting! Quiet as could be from 7-2. Caught nothing. Ice started booming and I caught about 75 gills from 2-dark. It always has a positive effect from my experiences.

Never noticed a difference. Last two years it was cracking all the time due to it was so cold and making ice. I think that noise is natural to the fish. They know it's cold and making ice.

I can't believe it bothers them much. After the first couple rumbles it just becomes normal. Gotta remember, your talking about a critter with a brain the size of a pea!!!

Heck of a lot of popping going on every day I've fished so far and I've caught pike & pickerel each time. Albeit it was a bit annoying.
