I'm still looking for safe places to walk on and people are driving on?  I hope that's not true because that's crazy.

Where did you read this at? I don't think this is true. I was the first person on this morning and I left at 12. The only vehicles on the ice were wheelers and sleds. It is possible, people go through the ice there all the time. Also, there was a plow truck on the ice right next to the east side!

I drove my boat on Champlain two days ago... Simple math: If I can drive my boat on it- you can't drive your truck on it, so don't!
May the fish be with you.

They should take his drivers and fishing license away. Hunting too for that matter don't think I'd trust him with a gun based on his decision making

Haha so it was that plow truck! I saw it out there!! I couldn't believe it. Plenty of ice for a fourhweeker but not a pick up. But I was wondering, does anyone know if I can drive my wheeler over the pressure ridge on Magog? Why does that happen, is it because of the reef?

Don't ever go ever a ice heave find another way around.
I've seen some crazy sh*t happen on that lake.
Buddy of mine had a pressure crack appear under his shack over night.
Ripped the anchor lines out and sent that thing to west side of the lake.
Be safe.............

ICYMI http://newportdispatch.com/2016/01/19/phil-white-uninjured-after-truck-goes-through-ice-recovery-postponed-until-spring/

And let me say that I find it mind boggling that the newspaper (can't really call it that i guess) allowed him to have a forum to ask for DONATIONS to help recover his truck. He was the idiot who drove it on when it was clearly not safe, and he thinks people should help him recover it? Crazy!

Um, yeah, that's pretty insane that anyone would have the nerve to ask for money... He should be asking God for some brains instead. Next time, bring a snow thrower if you're going to charge out onto the lake without having first checked the ice thickness! Better yet, just drill a few test holes, ya dungus!

I got the impression from reading his quotes that he might not be all that familiar with ice at all.  Possibly new to VT?   I won't dump on anyone for contributing - good intentions count in my opinion.

Those ice skaters have no fear!  2 weeks ago I was out fishing on first ice.  I left the machine at home and walked on 2" of black ice under 3" of white ice (frozen snow).  A guy came down the middle of the lake on a 4 wheeler, plowing.  He went back and forth 6 times.  Then he stopped near me and said "how much ice is there?"

I said "not enough for me to put my snowmobile on comfortably".

Then he said, "well the speed skater told me to plow it.  He said it's fine because you can drive a truck on 4 inches of ice".

He didn't break through, so I guess he was ok......but you wouldn't catch me doing that!
