weight of shanty on ice
« on: Jan 15, 2016, 08:15 AM »
is there a chart or something to determine the weight(force) of a permanent shanty on the ice?? we have a 8'x12' hard side that weighs roughly 1500#'s and trying to figure the least amount of ice to get it out on. I know that the weight is spaced out pretty good and not all at one end or the other. anyone have any thoughts?? oh boy opened up a can of worms there......

8 inches of black ice is said to be good for 2000lb . What are you pulling it out on the ice with? That extra weight of what ever you pull it out with needs to be factored into the weight on the ice!! ;D

You have 15.6lbs per square foot. So 6 inches of good ice is what you would need.
