Wind
« on: Jan 26, 2006, 09:22 AM »
After some of our recent adventures and misfortunes on Lake Tanglefoot with the wind.
I think a revision and redesign might be in order for next year.

Anyone want to share some advice on shanty design and protecting it from the wind?

Design your shanty so that it faces into the wind the lengthwise. Also and old trick we learned was place a eye hook high up on the shanty and tie a rope to it then tie a rope to a board, drill a hole and put the board, with rope attached down the hole under the ice. Acts as a good ice anchor.

I use basically the same thing but mine is made of 1x1" aluminum tubing with a hole drilled off center so when you give the rope some slack it tips down on one end to make it easy to bring back up through the hole.
