Shrinking ice seasons
« on: Jan 12, 2016, 11:43 AM »
Interesting data (link below) that over the past 180 years lake ice has been forming 18 days later and thawing 18 days earlier. That means there is over a month less "ice-days" today than in years gone by. :o

So this gets me wondering.....

a) Is there anything that can be done to increase the chances that there is something left for the generations that come down the road a bit?

b) Or is this phenomenon out of our control?

I am hoping for "a)"

According to my math that means we lose 5 hours of ice every year.

Out of state license is key certain years. Connecticut was great last year from Dec.14 to April fools day but drilling holes for 35 years I'm not waiting. We just put in 32 hours +/- in upstate NY.....priceless !

That's the scary part.....not really a theory....just data recorded over a period of 180 years.

Certainly there will be fluctuations from one year to the next. You have to look at long term trends.
