45 deg and rain here, same yesterday. St Lawrence River is wide open except for isolated bays and the smaller tributaries. We need -15 for a week to tighten things up around here. Got some derbies coming up that could be in trouble if we don't get ice. :(

40 and high winds out there. Rained all day with temps near 50. Looks like we're back to winter for a bit anyway. We'll see.

south shore of saginaw bay had rain saturday and temps in the low 40's and dropping fast. During the night the temps dropped to mid 20's, snow started falling, and we ended up with enough snow to put the  plow on the truck. windy all day sunday lots of drifting, temp at 20 now. Hopefully it's making ice. Everything under the snow froze.

Minus -22f here this morning, thank god for the wood stove. Feast or famin was to warm and little ice, now it's too cold for this old man to go out but at least it's making good ice in a hurry.
I like what I heard them call it on the weather channel, Alberta Clipper, Saskatchewan Screamer, Manitoba Mauler.

Cold is cold! Not only on the fingers when it's -20f but over the years I found that the fishing usually sucks when its like that anyway. Big high pressure system with bluebird clear sky's. If you are inside a shack with heat and the perch are biting it's probably not bad, but tip up fishing for walleye NO!.

This cold is good for businesses up in Northern Wis who depend on fishermen and primarily, snowmobilers.  I know of many resorts, bars and restaurants in NE Wis that were closed for almost the entire month of December due to poor conditions.
