Finally Hooked up..

hit 11 mile from 9 to 12 today. wow what a change in weather. it was only 29 but felt like 40 after last weeks Arctic blast. sun was shining and no wind. It's nice to get out when there isn't a zillon people on the ice. 10 am on the dot. dead sticking hot pink micro jig with meal worm in about 9 ft  of water next to a tiny weed patch. she almost pulled my rod in the hole. lucky I was only 20 ft away. Marked fish everywhere had a couple chasers. but got denied every time. they just didn't want to commit. 20 inches . I love that the fish in there are all so plump. boy did she like to bulldog a bit before coming through the hole. Released to fight another day. I always let the first fish of the season swim away. superstitious I guess. Hopefully this warm weather will turn them on.

yes. its a full sized reel I took off a rod my kids were using last summer. unfortunately my ice reels are junked. and rather than buying some cheapies that will crap out in a month. im just using my reels from last summer till I can spring for some nicer ultralight reels.

Nice fish. I do the same with the 1st iced fish of the season and sometimes the 1st fish of a given day.

Fourth trip but two out of the four were only for 3 hrs. I live close by. So I squeeze a couple hrs in when I can. I gues from now on if I'm going to post the size of a fish I better put the tape mesure in the pic. It would have been easier to do if I was keeping it. But I wanted to get her back in the water and she's was flopping around a bit.

Paid my dues today!sniff sniff yup my first skunk at the mile didn't even mark a fish ,fishing 7 to 17 ft at sucker and at lazy boy

Hit it again today same spot. 9 to 12 2 fish nothing to brag about prob 15" fish were active both were caught jogging bottom pounding scudbugs
