Under Menu>Map Options you will find a Satellite option for the overlay, I find it helpful examining waters given the surrounding land layout.

$9.99 per year, except for us who bought it prior to last year. We are grandfathered in with the maps for life. I was hoping they would have a sale on it again this year, the last couple years they marked it down to $0.99 around this time. I need to buy it for my Iphone one of these days. It is useful without buying the $9.99 version, the "navionics boating" is free and will allow you to add gps marks. It shows most lakes but does not give contours unless you buy the $9.99 version. If you have data service you can overlay BING or GOOGLE maps and at least see where you are on the free app, again no contours. The free app is called "Navionics Boating", and the $9.99 is "navionics USA". It is the same app, just with contours. You can download the free version and then pay the $9.99 through the app to get contours as well.

Good luck, its a useful tool for sure.

Just looked at my phone and apparently I was not grandfathered in since I've had a few phones since I purchased it like 4 years ago. Bummer.

Hey kevin,so every year I have to pay 9.99? I downloaded all the maps in case I lose service. So will I always have the maps and app?

Hey kevin,so every year I have to pay 9.99? I downloaded all the maps in case I lose service. So will I always have the maps and app?

You dont have to pay 9.99 every year, what happens at the end of subscription you will no longer be able to update your maps when Navionics does map updates, you also lose the use of advance map options.

After the initial app purchase of 9.99 the first year it costs 4.99 to renew it yearly after

So when your subscription is current if you click on Update All it will tell you that there are xxx amount of updates available and if you want to update click yes, you lose that ability to keep your map cartography current or up to date.

Its called Navionics+ you will see a pop up on the top of the app screen if your subscription runs out

This is the official explanation

Navionics+ for Mobile
Information

Details

The Navionics apps are built in the following way once you have purchased a Chart area from the Charts & Upgrades section of the Menu:
Original App Purchase
Base map only. Free Government coastal chart data for USA waters with free Boating apps.
App with Navionics+ Chart coverage purchased in-app or with a regional app purchase (e.g., Boating: UK&Holland)
You can download mapping areas as many times as you want to retrieve Map Updates within the 12-month subscription period.  You also receive access to SonarChart™, our high-definition bathymetric mapping for selected areas of the World. See the coverage map at the bottom of our SonarChart™ page - http://www.navionics.com/sonarcharts
Advanced Features - Navigation Module, Dock-to-dock Autorouting (iOS only) and Advanced Map Options - are available free with a Navionics+ subscription.
App after Navionics+ Subscription Expired
The last Map Updates remain resident on your device but can not longer be updated.
You can still download mapping for areas you have not downloaded previously within your Chart coverage area
Advanced Features expire with Navionics+ subscription expiration. Your saved Routes will not be lost but will no longer display with enhanced features without a subscription renewal.
* Navionics+ subscription Upgrades are per Chart area/application. You can restore a Navionics+ Upgrade within your App using your Navionics Account information. A Navionics+ subscription purchased within the standard App can not be transferred to an HD App (different App title) or from a single App to the Boating App.

What? Thats weird. My android is 2.5 years old and after the initial purchase of 0.99 i have not had to renew. I lost the "premium" features this year but i still have contours and "fishing mode" and all of that good stuff.

Yes you will keep what you have when your subscription runs out, it doesnt delete anything you just do not get the latest and greatest features mentioned in my earlier post. Apps are constantly changing in operation.

No you should not I never have. But you should do this anyway just in case you lose your phone down the hole, this backs all your Markers/Waypoints, Routes and Trails to the Navionics "Cloud" Its kept private to you

Mobile: Sync My Data
Information

Details

If you are looking to share your Favorites (Tracks, Markers or Routes) between Navionics mobile apps on different devices, you can use the Sync My Data feature.

To turn on the Sync My Data function go to either into the app Menu and turn on the Sync My Data option.

You will be required to create a Navionics Account (or sign into an existing Navionics Account).  Signing into the same Navionics Account on multiple devices will Sync your Favorites data through your Account on our servers.

Will it link between ios and android? I have it turned on with both accounts, logged in on both, and they are definitely not sharing between the two. One has 40 waypoints and the other has 1.

Yes it will

Try this
Mobile Data Not Syncing
Information

Details

If you find your Favorites data is not syncing between your Navionics mobile apps that are connected through the same account, please go through the steps below on the device that you are trying to sync data to.
Turn OFF the Sync My Data option in Menu
Add a Marker (see Apple: Creating a Marker or Android: Creating a Marker)
Turn ON the Sync My Data option again in Menu
When the banner box appears, tap on the "Don't Delete" button so you trigger synchronization.

If that doesnt work contact tech support

Glad to help! Let me know if you have any other questions. Couple of tips make sure you turn on the SonarChart Layer under the sonar icon on the map page, if you travel out of your coverage range download a map area for off line viewing using the internal GPS.

Also watch my 2 videos i went over or demoed pretty much everything to make this app work for you.
