Today the forecast is looking even better. Looks like a string of nights with temperatures in the 20s and high teens. A few days have highs in the 40s, but I am still hopeful

50 degrees on Sunday with rain does not look promising.

Long range forecast after next Tuesday week looks on the decent side, though. I might have to head to Western Mass, NH or Vermont to get my fix once things start to lock up there.

I am praying for fishable ice around here by the 18th since I have off work for MLK day. Pretty sure Martin Luther King was a big winter sports enthusiast.

Local pond near me nearly locked up over night...maybe an inch and some skim...by tomorrow it should have a good starting point. I think it will make it till next week...hopefully the rain is light and it will wash it like a zamboni. To much wind last night. Tight lines and be patient

Just want to bump this up since the predication was Mid January..... well its Mid January and I have yet to fish in RI. 3" doesn't do it for me for those that have been out. My prediction was the end of January, and even that is looking like a failure. $:-\$

The long range forecast is not promising...Accuweathe r is calling for lots of days in the 40's from the end of January and well into February.

I think it is time for an adjustment of expectations. The good news is that there are lots of places in New England with some pretty good ice fishing right now. They might be an hour or more away, but at least we can get our fix. I am thinking of going someplace on Thursday. Small ponds in the hills might have enough ice. I don't really expect to fish Lincoln Woods etc. until the spring. Of course, I could be wrong. Let's hope I am. as Fredjiggy and Chepiguy have said, we've gotta have faith.
