Georgetown Lake
« on: Dec 14, 2015, 08:02 PM »
Never been to Georgetown Lake. Was wondering somewhere good to fish with my six year old. We use to live in ND on Lake Audubon and that kid loves some ice fishing. Just some tips of places to fish.

Don't forget to check the archives for Georgetown as well. Lots of great information there.
To jig or not to jig... That is the question.

Id wait  the icy roads are dangerous right now.. you need an ice house for this lake.
the wind blows  hard and cold. They just got 20 inches of new snow on the lake.
i was told by the brown derby at the bar 3 feet of snow. Hope they plow it out so we can
get to the fishing spots to park

Don't be deterred if you don't have an ice house. I've fished it since I was three feet talk without an ice house :)

I have an ice house that I bring but rarely use it.  Nice to have just in case.

my screw anchors aren't long enough for the snow and I refuse to shovel the lake. I don't even shovel my sidewalk or driveway, only a path across the deck to the hot tub.
if you're too busy to go fishing, you're too busy

I always bring a snow shovel for the lake and a regular shovel to shovel out my truck if I get stuck (which I have lol) anytime I am at Georgetown! It's extra work, but the place is worth it!

Snowing this morning, salmon starting to bite.  10 inches of ice.  Caught a couple 6 inchers this morning.  Watch for soft spot at denton point about 30 feet out. Many people fall in.  Only 4 feet of water but still no fun.

A buddy and I were up yesterday.  Clear roads in the morning, snow pack all the way home.  Fishing was slow, caught 9 trout, and 1 silver.  Lots of slush, was pretty miserable in the shanty.  about 3" of water inside.......

How are the roads around the lake? I heard a rumor that Granite Co. wasn't going to plow up there this year.

They are fine and I've seen the plow trucks working up there a couple of weeks ago. Sunny side was not plowed.

So far this season, the kokanee have been down out of sight.  On Sunday December 20 at Sunnyside, my fish finder was constantly showing large numbers of fish between ten and fifteen feet below the surface in 19 feet of water, but I only saw a couple, which I enticed towards the surface by slowly jigging my lure from the middle of the school up towards the surface.

Once the schools of kokanee come closer to the surface, so you can see them nipping at your lure, they'll be a lot easier to catch.

Fishing over by dentons has been good for trout. Glow hooks and maggots will do the trick!
