« on: Oct 18, 2015, 09:58 AM »
its nice to see the site picking up, as we all get ready and wait. So with that being said, What knot do you use for tying on Tungston jigs or any other set ups for that matter.

Swift, the Surgeons Loop is great for giving you some added action, but do you find the 70% knot strength cost you some big fish? I only use it when I want a weak spot on the line, like to have a weight break off before anything else...

Never have had a problem with it. Don't rely on the drag and am very good at back reeling/playing a brute

Braid to flouro leader double UNI, leader to bait Trilene Knot or Perfection Loop depending on what I'm tying to.

I use the uni knot for braided line. It has never failed me and it allows me to tie braid on each end of a swivel without having to go sober the swivel or bait like you would a Polamer.

heard most of the good ones mentioned already, but did not hear anyone mention the Crazy Alberto knot ! this knot has saved my bacon many a dark night out on the jetties. worth a google search imo and is quite simple to tie..... braid to mono or visa versa is its purpose.  extremely strong and reliable.  ;)2

Not sure what a " horizon " is....I use a Trilene knot 90% of the time. Maybe a Polomar if the eye is big enough. Dropper loop for stacked jigs.

Palomar, and improved clinch knots.  After reading this year's In Fishermans Ice mag, I am trying a snell knot for a better horizontal presentation.

Which knot I use depends on the type of jig I'm using:

1) Snell knot- I tie this knot on all my hole-through-eye jigs. Some of the advantages include a jig that stays perfectly horizontal and more efficient fishing since the need to reposition knot after each catch is eliminated.
2) Surgeon's loop- Use this with all of my tungsten jigs (mainly 3 and 4mm CJ&S Chekai and Majmun). Jig is able to move freely and angle stays at 45 degrees.
3) Palomar- Use this with all other lead eyelet jigs.

I'd stick with the classics mentioned and practice your knots until you can tie in the half light of a shelter or with numb and trembling fingers.  www.netknots.com is a good source of diagrams. My personal favorites are the palomar when I can, improved clinch when I can't and the double uni to join two lines.
We're born, we live for a while, and then we die.  Sounds like a good reason to go ice fishing.

I always use surgeon's loop for small tungsten jigs, to keep them at the correct angle, and to prevent twisting.
For all other terminal tackle, I use Palomar for fluoro, improved clinch for mono.
Flags up, gentlemen!!!
