This Friday
« on: Jan 17, 2006, 04:12 PM »
Will there be any safe ice anywhere by this Friday? Any size lake, it doesnt matter. Will Budd or Monksville possibly be safe? this will be my last chance to go out for a while.

Sorry Moose but the only safe ice will be up in the great white north. If NJ does not see at least a weeks worth of below 32* this season is over :'(

It was 63 deg. this morning with a driving rain. I truly believe we can not overcome this with a couple of cold days then 40's & 50's for the rest of the week. Once the sun gets even a little higher in the sky we're screwed! I hope I'm wrong and Feb is colder than usual but historically Dec/Jan are the important ice making months.
People think we're crazy but we know better!

Again i am going to pray for a repeat of last year.
Had a real cold end of Jan and early Feb...even had soild ice on the main lake at Hopatcong.
I hope this more than wishful thinking on my part.

Seems like the season is over without really getting started. Write this 'winter' down in the books as a total FLOP !

Not sure what the Poconos got hit with last night but I'm not very far and we got heavy rain. I haven't gone out to check but I can pretty safely say only Lake Jean has any safe ice out this way in PA. I hope I'm wrong though.

Just checked Promised Land state web site and they are saying they got 5 inches left with some open water on the upper lake.

There should be a bunch of lakes with safe ice just into the poconos. Fairview,Upper Promisedland,Tobyhanna,Minisink, Shohola. I don't think any of these lakes are more than 30 miles into PA. If the state park is saying 5 inches for Promisedland it should be plenty safe, with maybe more than 5. Most of the time they like to play it on the safe side when they post reports. Or make the drive up to NY for the same distance. If you want ice, you have to drive.

There was 10 inches on upper promised land on Sunday, shorelines were open somewhat, needed a plank to get on.

Ice will be fine, shorelines are the question.
