One more time
« on: Mar 31, 2015, 08:17 AM »
I was hoping to get one more day in but it looks like I won't be able to get out until Thursday April 2.  I was thinking of heading West to the Berks or to maybe East to Rutland or Hubbardston.  Does anybody have any recent ice conditions for Lake Garfield, Lake Buel or Thousand Acre?  How about, Demon, Long Pond, Comet or Moosehorn?  I'm in Belchertown.  It's all a pretty good ride for me so any recent ice information would be much appreciated.   Thanks

Also curious if I can squeeze one more day out of Comit. Thought of taking a ride up to check, not sure if I'll get there or not.

And before anyone else chimes in yes I know check my own ice, use a spud. etc.

Just curious if its even worth the drive to check if someone already has.

Buel Sunday.  Man did I move fast when I broke through making that hole!  Ice was 15 to 18 otherwise but the edges are going on the side the launch is on.

Looks like a similar hole I made coming off Southmeadow. The 1 foot dunk.

I got lucky.  20 fow far from shore.  Was walking to a flag didnt have spud in hand.  Additional checking proved I was a few inches away from putting the other foot through too.

To contrast here is how the ice looked like everywhere else.  Notice the lack of honeycomb!

I was going to try Noyes but now you have me reconsidering.  lowaccord, have you been up that way at all?  It is a little higher in elevation so I'm thinking it should be fine.

Hi pmaloney I don't know the place personally but would suggest extreme caution where ever you go.   I was being lazy and got a reminder that you need to be on full alert on late ice.  Ctownfisherman and I nearly required a rescue once when the ice to get back to the launch crapped out from safe to unsafe in hours...it took some doing to spud a safe path off.

Yikes!  At least mine today I knew it was coming.  Old hole?  Back at it tomorrow if I can get things dried out!

No Jon I think it was a weak spot, I used my spud to check it out after to see what happened and no signs of an old hole.  Maybe it was and got huge, hard to tell.

Did anyone get over to Comet to check it out? I thought one guy on here lived right there.
