anyone ever use a chainsaw to cut ice ? I always thought it would dull the biade but I saw some square hies this year and it must have been cut with a chainsaw .Just wondering the effect on the blade.

Did it years ago to scuba dive under the ice. Cuts fine, you get wet.

i always imagined my bar and chain oil would foul up my visibility, but then i guess i could just run it dry there would certainly be enough cooling

i've considered punching 4 holes in a square  and then using a chainsaw, or any other saw  to cut between them to have a large square   where you can sight fish when jigging shallow water,
though ive always decided against it becuase i would hate to hear someone fell through after it froze over for only a day or two or even more
would be a great way to help keep kids entertained  when fishing

thats the only reason i havent done it, after having my foot go through a 10 inch hole  covered in junk ice  this year i wouldnt think of it

would be quite something to see,
could set up a wider flip over shanty on it to keep the snow aqnd wind on it,
could even set a lazy boy in it   and be super comfy while waiting for tips  to go up,

Happened to me at Beseck in Middlefield a few years ago, glad I didn't go all the way through.  Snow mobile tracks right next to it too. Couldve been real bad
