And and some buddies went to highland Sunday. Caught my first trout through the ice. Nothing too crazy size wise but I caught enough to be fun



Anyway. One of my buddies gut hooked a 22" pickerel so I said I'd keep it(I'd been wanting to try pike but close enough). I did a cracker crumb breading mixed with garlic and onion powder, salt and old bay. Pan fried it up and to my delight it was awesome. I'll definitely start keeping more through the ice when I catch the bigger ones. So before you throw them back or god forbid leave them on the ice, just give them a shot. I bet you'll like it

I think the only reason people don't eat more picks is because they are tricky to filet.   I haven't had the desire to try to filet one myself despite being decent with he knife.

man one of the places i fished this winter  i would pull out nice  fat golden shiners, and decent sized dace
should have kept them, next winter will be sure to have a set up for them
though i dont normally go out for pike much

I was with two other guys but no little ones. We were probably half way down the lake. No one near us
