No ice, but lots of trout!
« on: Feb 13, 2015, 10:05 PM »
I drove over to Mantua Reservoir this afternoon to see if I could do any damage.  It's ice free and had about a dozen boats on the lake today.  The banks were all muddy so I decided to explore a little bit.  I ended up on Maple Creek which flows into Mantua from the South.  I ended up catching 6 trout; 1 Tiger, 4 Rainbows, and 1 Cutthroat.  I lost a couple of big ones because they snapped my line (I'll be putting some 6 lb. test on the reel tonight).  They were hitting a Rat Finkee jig tipped with mealworms.  It was shirt-sleeve weather - mid February - go figure!

Very nice, I've seen quite a few in there while riding wheelers past there. Good looking fish
