Year of the nice bows....

So I haven't had too much to post about for a while. Been fishing solo mostly. A few skunk trips with hit and spits. Fished during the derby for fun on Saturday, started the day off by falling through the ice near shore. It's the first time I've gone through not knowing it might happen (like early ice). It was a bit scary, I couldn't feel bottom at first but was able to climb up a boulder and back out. A few people saw me and came running over to help. I was wearing waders and a tight jacket. I got a bit wet/scraped up my knuckles on the ice but that was it. Everyone remember to be careful out there. The ice was around 12"  in the area....

Got out solo yesterday, late start and was set up on the lake around 11am. No action until around 1:30 when I went to check my smelts. I pulled my trap up to see the smelt, put it back down and as soon as I stood up it go's off. Grabbed it and set it right away. I could tell it was a good one. Bubbles came up out the hole and I thought it might be a laker but I got it to swim by and saw the red. Then F&G officer "Chris" pulls up as I'm fighting the fish. Good thing was I forgot my camera and he was able to get a few pics and e-mail them to me. Big thanks to him. Caught on a smelt a few feet under the ice in about 15 foot deep. Didn't get any stats but was fat with eggs. Hooked perfect right in the upper jaw and was released to swim another day.

What a bodacious bow that is. Sorry to hear about your accident at least that turned out OK for you.

Probably the best Bow I've seen this season. Congrats!

Glad you were alright too after going through, you just never know. Thank for the reminder, sometimes we get too relaxed out there.

The waders probably have more mojo, alot of nice fish caught wearing them  ;D

Clams, You scared the s**t out of me when I watched you go through. I couldn't get my old , pop up shanty doors, un zipped fast enough! You climbed out of the hole just about the time I got to you.      I thought for sure you were done for the day , then about 40 min later I see you come back out and fish the rest of the day  ;D..  :thumbsup:
