Check in your regulations book it should list the public access sites for the whole state. I'm still partial to berrien springs MI for the steelhead. Lots of fish and good current below the dam. I think the fish ladder may be closed most of the winter so the fish are stuck below the dam.PM me if you need more info.

There is  a public access area to the Little Calumet, just north of Rt 20 on Rt. 149 near Porter and Portage. Go north of Rt. 20 on Rt. 149 and turn left just past the police station. I fished it last week, trying to float fish for Steelhead.

Here's a pic of a fish my friend caught last week

Go to the steelheadsite.com and get on the indiana forum.  This should help you out quite a bit in your quest for the big one. ;)

Thanks for all the good information, seems like they are just a bit south of burns ditch.  Do launch out of the portage marina.  Are these creeks all shallow?

Yes the creeks are pretty shallow but you look for holes and fish around them. I went up to Michigan City and fished near the DNR office. Very nice place to fish by the way. You can pull you car right up behind the bank. There were a lot of guys fishing but I only saw 3 fish taken and I was there from 9am-3pm. I was fishing with shrimp under a bobber and then I tried a "little cloe" spoon but still no luck. Here's one that Smitty caught

I've fished that pier many many times, and it can be tough fishing.  I'd much rather take my boat and fish the breakwall area, or walk the creeks.  I've made the long drive back to indy with no fish many times after fishing that pier.
