Mississippi Underwater Cams
« on: Feb 02, 2015, 08:39 AM »
Anyone run cams in the river?  Was thinking about picking one up, mainly so the kids dont get so bored and fight over my Lowrance.  Is there enough visibility for them to work or would it be a waste?

I've used one in the backwaters, not much visibility in murky water but they do work.

Mine works OK in shallow backwater areas, deeper than 12' and I can't see much. I just have a cheap-o black and white setup with IR lights. It does work a lot better than I expected it would.

Thanks for the input. I think I'm going to pass this year and get a Frabill Commando instead.  My hub style isn't very practical for my solo fishing days.

I agree with the above...though the clarity the last couple of years has been a tad better than normal. If you were fishing some clear water lakes/ponds it would definitely keep the kids entertained. First ice on backwaters is better than late season for using a camera, however. You'll love the commando - money well spent
