Coldbum, My vote would be fathead. It seems to me that the dace has a lateral stripe and tends to be more thinner in body shape.  Lou

Looks like a Big Fathead Minnow  (Pimephales promelas) I'd say male be more sure if i could actually see the Tubercles on the head :) Normal size is 2-3" with a 3 1/2" max
