Am I the only one beginning to worry
« on: Jan 10, 2006, 05:39 PM »
LISTEN!  With everyone asking about the weather and ice conditions.  I am worried that someone is going to fall through and drown in the upcoming days :(

Guys & gals, if there is one thing that 26 years of ice fishing has taught me.  If you are questioning yourself if the ice is going to be weak, IT PROBABLY IS AND STAY HOME!  The ice will firm up in another week or so and then you can enjoy yourself.  Remember, you have family at home that love you and need you!

There!  I've said my peace.

Yes, you have to worry about the ice thickness. Also yo have to worry about how much you drink on the ice. Yeah I like a couple beers out ther, but some guys are sloshed at the end of the day. So are they gonna drive a car? A sled? 4wheeler? Or try and walk back safely? I don't mean to be a wet blanket, but think about the drink. :o

I for one will be waiting it out at least until Sunday. I fish with my 12 y/o boy and cannot afford the consequences of a poor decision. He keeps me in check on the beverages too, other than the occasional or a thermos of Mojo with some Bailey's in it ::)!

New to the board and new to ice fishing.

I hit round lake last Saturday (Saratoga County).  A solid 8 inches of ice.

Is this warm weather enough to ruin it for this coming Saturday.

If the warm weather is accompanied by a lot of rain it will.

Always wear clean underwear, cuz ya never know when the paramedics are gonna have to cut your pants off.

My guess the rain predicted will have most of these local waters messed up! How did you do on Round saturday? I hit it Sunday before first light fished till 11:30 and iced a perch and a crappie. The race track in front of the launch got started around 11:00

Ended up doing pretty well, but it was a challenging day.

First off, the auger (hadn't been used in years) didn't work - blades were sharp but probably bent.  I ordered new ones on Monday.  Took 15 minutes to drill a hole.

Walked out from the parking area on 9, in about 15 feet towards the center and tried everything to no avail.

Moved all the way across the lake and got into fish in 5' of water.  Caught 4 perch (2 slabs) and about 20 bluegills.  Kept 2 perch and about 10 gills for a fish fry that night.  Also got 3 largemouths - 2 were about 12 inches and the 3rd was nice - maybe 4 lbs.  All fish were caught on small jigs tipped with mousies.

Didn't have a hit on a tip-up all day.
