Not having any success on LBDN [Is it just me???]
« on: Jan 26, 2015, 08:23 AM »
Fished from 10am - 5pm on Saturday with only 1 bite while jigging, he came off halfway up. That's twice in 2 weeks I've been skunked, this last Saturday I was off of Terrace, tried upper bay before that. My father-in-law is coming over from Wisconsin this Saturday and we plan to be on the ice by sun up to try again. I'd really like to get him on some fish. IF we can find em my wife is going to bring her mother and our 5 year old boy out to fish with us. It's been tough keeping the boy interested due to lack of fish coming through the hole.  :-\ Any suggestions, tips and/or tricks anybody could offer would be MUCH appreciated!

See you on the ice!

If your walleye fishing you got your times messed up. I'd be leaving at ten and going back out at 3.

Today was the first time I didnt leave the bay with fish. I did lose a hog half way to the hole but otherwise Ive been lucky bringing meat home. And I agree with Crank, Im on ice by 7am at latest and usually the morning bite seems to end around 9-10am. The past few nights the night bite hasnt started till 5-530pm. Thats off the terrace area as well

Not just you a buddy and I fished all day there on 20th. Lots of lookers, only 1 on a jigging rods and never had flag.

I agree with the guys above.  You definitely need to be out there earlier and stay later otherwise your not gonna see much action.  I was down there all weekend and we were done by 930am and the fish didn't bite at night till after 530.

Wow, good advice on the times. I had no idea. We'll leave Ishpeming early and be down before the sun comes up. Probably head up to upper bay around 10 and try to get on some perch then. How's the perch bite up there? Anybody know if the narrows are good now to travel back on forth on? Or should we come off and get back on at kipling?

We fished Sat. (24th) from around 1pm till dusk in the Upper Bay area. We had a few bites and I lost one right at the hole -- a real bummer to get skunked. We tried moving a couple times and marked a lot fish but no takers. It went dead on the fish finder at dusk. Always next time!

Mostly fish off the yellow gates for perch, been spotty for sure. Pick up the occasional eye or pike. But any day fishing is
better than work eh :)

The advice on the times is the most important to follow, as for folks getting the lookers, alot of those will be whitefish.
Good Fishin!!!

Yooperandy, you aren't the only one. Have been down there several times without luck. Fished straight in front of the Terrace Sunday 6-10 am  on the drop offs from 10 to about 35 feet. I hear other people are catching, but don't know what the secret is.

I was down there 2 weeks ago, two days of fishing and all we had to show from it was a few perch. One of the locals that had a walleye told me that it was caught on a small treble hook and baited with a three inch minnow.

Not getting many walleye north of Gladstone on the reefs we are catching some nice perch though. You have to finesse them though and if you don't have a graph then your fishing blind.

Tip ups for walleye and jigging for perch. Our group has caught 4-8 walleye and a decent amount of perch on each of our trips north of Gladstone.

Curious to what you guys are using for bait on your jigging sticks. May be able to give you some pointers.

@CrankYanker, I using jigging raps, and shiver minnows. Also used spoons tipped with a minnow in the bottom 3 feet of the water column. Tip ups I used a treble hook with a minnow 3 feet off the bottom. Thanks for the help!

Sounds like the right artillery. My go to is a #7 firetiger. Don't be afraid to jig the crap out if it. Also if running two tip ups I like one at three ft and one close to bottom about 12". See which one is catching and switch the other if needed. I do most damage jigging though. Seems we are in the be February doldrums and fishing can be tough. Hard to find a spot now that hasn't been pressured for a month.  Keep your distance from the crowds.
