Cascade conditions today?
« on: Jan 18, 2015, 08:01 PM »
I was wondering how much water and slush was on the ice.

Am thinking about heading up tomorrow on MLK day.

Thanks.

Be prepared for wet.  There was enough standing water on the ice when I was driving away that I could see a ripple in the water on top of the ice.  It will be a wet slushy mess until we get enough cold to harden it back up.  I'm thinking at least Tuesday, and maybe Wednesday before things will be where I'd want to go on it.

i was up there today and tried to fish it but was unwilling to get that wet, by the city boat ramp there was standing water around the edges making it very difficult to even get on to the ice. After a very slow yesterday I had no desire to try it again under the current conditons.

Lots of standing water on the ice but access to the lake is just fine.  Every hole drilled creates a whirlpool so I drilled about 20 holes to do my part in putting the water back BELOW the ice!

I was out there from 8 until 12 at Blue Heron and felt like I was ice skating.   I forgot my ice cleats; would recommend anybody to bring them the next couple of days in case the temp drops as much as they day it will.

We fished South end yesterday and no water on the ice. I agree ice cleats are a must. We did better than we had expected with the spotty reports so was glad we went. It is cold there this week so it will stay firm. Yesterday we had about 6 inches of ice.

Was out yesterday, It was as smooth as I have seen it. If you have kids, bring skates. They will have a blast! Also a good option for those wanting to tour around and see the whole lake. I would not have wanted a 4 wheeler out there without some good chains. Bring ice creepers- I am sure Tom's will be wiped out in the morning!

Blue heron area up to Campbell had 7" consistent with 8" in some areas never went below 6.5". It was slick....bad slick. Snowmobiles are going to have a problem and ATVs will slide.

Everyone please be careful and drive a safe pace for your specific machine. I know im going to be going slower than 10 tomorrow on my snowmobile.

We were the last off tonight, there is a big pressure ridge stacked up about two feet high in front of the blue heron launch all the way across. We broke it down flat and filled with ice blocks for the width of a sled in 4 inches deep water and expect the gap to freeze tonight, so it should be easier to access then it was today. I saw a few folks almost slip/trip and fall trying to get on to the cement. Moral of the story be careful.

Be careful out there. The ice is good, the heaves are bad. Some have several feet of open water around them.

What specific areas are the heaves at? Or are they all over? Thinking about going Sunday, don't want any trouble with the atvs though.

Yeah that was me...almost lost my trailer. The area by the 1st corner out of sugarloaf boat launch. The pressure ridges have slush and water on both sides and so when you hit them cruising to get across the wheeler dives in and you stop dead in your tracks. There are multiple fractures so once ya cross 1 you get to do it again etc. We stopped to look at the cracks and dont kid yourself when you push the ice out of the way you will see black water!!! Be safe gang
