Is there such a thing as an Ice reel?

I need 2 reels to go on my ice rods.
Are there specs I should care about when picking out some replacement reels?

What's your budget?  Best for the money has to be pflueger Trion in my opinion.

for money nothing compares to a shimano sedona the best drag system out there and if you don't have the money for that the scheels brand ice reels are great they are designed for ice fishing and if it breaks since its a scheels brand they exchange over the counter no questions asked

I just bought a couple of those Eagle Claw reels and I really like them so far... They aren't high end, (Shimano) but work pretty good for my budget... I like them better than the spinning reels I had been using... I added a line counter to my pole and the combo works well to get me on the mark... Biggest issue for me is getting used to the star drag control... Later J

Awesome,

What differs in an Ice reel?

I bought a mitchell on sale @ sportsman's warehouse.
still need one more... or maybe two  :o!

I've had Pflueger for my bass fishing rig and loved it.
Not sure what an eagle claw is, I'll look for that.
Star drags are nothing new for me, and I dig 'em. They are very precise.

Depends on what you like. Pfluger Presidents are great for the money. I have a Clam inline but can't pass judgement on it yet.

I just returned the expensive aluminum eagle claw inline... Drag was so bad it was nearly unusable. Wasnt going to put up with that on a $55 reel.

The eagle claw inline I like a lot takes a learning curve but you can controll how fast you bait drops to maybe get a hit on the way down 40 $ but worth your line not twisting up causing problems if you fly fish over spinning this is the reel you want most people mistake the drop drag for the reel drag

Think I got my Eagle claw reels for $27 each at CAL Ranch... They do require learning how not to let the line spool out too quick and form a birds nest, but after the first oops you figure it out... and the drag is okay once you get onto the star drag setting... I just haven't fished with that type drag very much before, so I don't instinctively know where to adjust it when a fish is ripping line off, but I figured it out... I like these reels for this purpose and I find I use them instead of my other reels.. Hope someday to catch a real fish with the reel to see if it works for big fish as well as regular ones... Later J

You can use your finger on the right side that's usually what I do that way you can let line out accordingly but for smaller fish you can just have it set most of the way tight
Ps I got a 23 inch cutthroat on it that's how I learned the finger drag trick

I have noticed the same thing, it's like palming a fly reel, guess that is one reason I like it, it reminds me of flyfishing with a geared advantage so you can get the fish in a little faster than the one to one ratio of the fly reel... Thanks J
