Where are the perch
« on: Jan 09, 2015, 12:22 AM »
What's the best perch lake between Cadillac and Traverse City. There are millions of dinks in every lake in the area but does any one have a reputation for big perch? I fish Portage normally when I'm up but ya really gota sort'em over there.

Ever try Skegmog? It has a good perch population.

I agree Skegmog has good perch but you might also have to sort some

West and East Grand Traverse Bay and Lake Michigan.

If and when they get safe ice, they have great Jumbo perch fishing.

Go to YouTube and search "Michigan Out of Doors T.V. #1412" they have a video on the bays catching perch.

Other than that, It most likely will take some sorting unless you hit a good school .

Crystal used to have some nice jumbo fishing, but you have to sort there now too.

I usually go to Skegemog for Perch, but I will make the trip to Crystal Lake for the Lakers, smelt and the underrated Burbot.

Good Luck

Joe, you have to admit if you actually live in TC and ice fish there...that even if the bays ice up, actually finding those jumbos is sort of an enomily.  Those guys on Michigan outdoors only had those perch for like a day and then could never find big ones again.

To get a lot of perch in the TC area, you either need to be on one of the Glenn lakes or Skegemog.

I live a few blocks from West Bay.

I was born in Traverse City and have lived here my whole life and fish both bays almost year round.

When they have safe ice we do well on perch.

Good sized perch from the bay I would call it more of the norm and less of an anomaly.

Keep in mind West and East bay is over 35 miles long and over 10 miles wide at spots, which results in hundreds of square miles.

The main thing is location, location, location.

Any body of water that has perch has small perch and you can get into those.

Some waters have a better population of larger perch than others and I feel the bays are one of those.

I have always fished and recommended Skegemog.

If you check my posting history you will see that I often target Perch, I also tell you the location and sometimes the method used.

Good Luck All

CN, I know photo shopped perch are much easier to clean, but how do you cookem'? ;D Seriously, tho, have this pic made into a puzzle for your wife while you're out fishin' I think.
