Garmin fish finder with 10/40 degree cones

Since I didn't save enough penny's to buy a lx7 this year I thought I would try buying the 50/120 transducer for my echo instead of the 77/120.     It was fine for shallow water but made lakers a little difficult trying to see them in deep water.    I'm wondering if anybody out there had tried the transducer switch.   I think the one it comes with is only 60/120 degrees but this new one is 10/40
