lowrance elite 4x or similar model ?
«

I have an elite 4 x. I usually jig in a split screen mode full screen on right and zoom on Left. On the bottom left of screen there's a big battery symbol that displays battery life. Its too big IMO. Gets in the way. Is there a way to remove this from view? I've looked in settings but don't see anything to turn it off.

Sal, i know on my elite 5 chirp if you take it out of ice mode and put it in general mode it will remove the big green power battery symbol. Im told there is no difference between ice and general?? (don't know but try it). ray

thanks I was told that today from Lowrance, I will try it out, and as you said it supposedly doesnt make a difference, I wonder why they have an ice option if there is no difference. I will try it out and report back. Thanks,

I just got the elite 4 also, havent ice fished with it but played quite a bit off dock. . Had same issue, switched to shallow water mode and was gone. In my overlay settings you can add voltage meter, more useful then big green icon and can size it small Then get rid of it and rest of the screen cluttering overlays when settled in fishing by hitting menu then "overlay data". Turn on/off by checking or unchecking box.

I have the Elite 4 along with the PPP-18i setup (Portable Power Pack, ice version), which means it has the 200hz transducer (though the machine can use both freq you mention with other transducers). I followed the advice in this thread: (
http://www.iceshanty.com/ice_fishing/index.php?topic=252576.0
) and my machine worked fantastic in both 35 fow and 10 fow this past weekend. I was thrilled to drop my line in, jig a few times, and see a fish come up and take my jig right away (although it was a 6" perch, it was the first time with a fish finder). Hope this helps.

Thanks gobosox, do you have it set for ice mode or shallow water? I was going to try shallow water mode to get rid of the battery symbol. I will try out the things listed. Thanks alot. I can see my jigs and fish come up, but the smaller jigs are giving me trouble to fine tune on my sonar, thats what im working on this year.
Thanks to all who answered this.

I kept mine on ice mode because I was not experiencing any issues and I wanted to monitor battery life since it was my first full day using the setup on ice. I was using a pretty small PK predator jig and not having any issues in either the 35 or 10 depths.

I bought the PPP-18i and the head unit each off eBay separately. There's a guy who sells refurbished head units for starting bids of $49 with nothing else. The ice pack completes it out perfectly. You just can't use the newer HDI or DSI units without extra attachments. Anyhow I picked my stuff up back in early fall so it may be harder to find now. Sorry I couldn't help more!

We were discussing this in the electronics board the other day, the fishing modes are just factory presets. If you copy all the settings from ice mode into any of the other modes the unit will perform the same as is in "ice mode" but the battery is removed. Hope that makes sense.

It does I tried it. The major difference I saw was that when I took it out of ice mode the battery symbol went away and the fine tuning features such as noise rejection and surface clarity feature were removed from the quick drop down menu. I can still adjust them but I have to hit a different button to do that. Thanks

There is a bit of a learning curve with the settings and menus, like how the amplitude scope menu option disappears when in split flasher view. You have to make sure to check it on or off before entering that mode.
I bought one of the hdi units earlier in the year for open water and added the ice transducer for this season, been having more than a bit of fun with it. Good to see these are getting a little more attention on the boards.

I had same issue last year but I found a place that has some, with the rebate in effect they sell fast. Plus the elite 4x ice machine is no longer made i think just the elite 4x hdi, its about the same price now. NH RED I re sent the PM to you, if you call them I bet they have some. Whatever you do DO NOT order from the FACTORY Outlet store .com.... if you google lowrance its the first site that comes up. Its a scam, I was almost taken last year. Avoid this site........ Look for the PM I sent.
Thanks for all the tips on adjustments, I tried it out last night seems to look better now, will report back after I jig with it.
