Lots of short lakers.. Set shiners near bottom at varying depth. I caught some in as little as 10 fow there last year. Try jigging smelt, too. You might hook into one that way.

Lake trout fishing is pretty good, but don't expect to get any "keepers". Most of the fish run about 15 to 18 inches. There are landlocked salmon too, but they are stocked in relatively low numbers for the size of the lake. I've never managed to successfully land a salmon at Piseco, but have heard of some really nice ones being taken. Lake trout are found pretty much anywhere, the salmon tend to run a few feet under the ice over deep water. (50ft+). Run a tip up baited with smelt in the area I just described for the salmon. I get lakers jigging silver swedish pimples with a smelt head. Smelt are your best bet for lakers and salmon. The smelt are easy to catch if you can find them. If no luck on jigging up smelt for bait, emerald shiners do alright. Right off anyone of the campsites is good water for both lakers and salmon. Good Luck. PM me if you need anymore help.

In the summer time I get into the smb. Never tried thru the ice. I've heard the lake trout are just under size there.

Livingston things may have changed since when I last was in area. (trip in Feb.2007) The campsite on east end of lake was the only one of the three to have parking area plowed. Also bring your spud shoreline drops off quickly. There is a thread for Piseco lake in the Reports and Conditions community.

You can park at all 3 campgrounds most of the time they don't plow every day it snows but at least once a week.

I keep lakers once in awhile to smoke one or use in a fish stew.  They're a bit oily to eat like other trout, though the right cook could probably make them pretty tasty.

I vary the recipe but it always starts out with an overnight soak in a brine with some type of sweetner in it, brown sugar, maple syrup, molasses, sometimes some soy sauce or worstershire.  There are lots of recipes on you tube which is where I get my recipes.  I almost always vary the recipe--I like to try different ones.  Once smoked, I usually serve it like an hors doerve on crackers.  You have just enough time to catch one and smoke it for the Super Bowl!

I wouldn't go for salmon in Piseco. I have a camp on the lake and fish it heavily in summer and winter. Haven't seen a salmon come out of there in 7-10 years. Not to say there aren't any in there though.
