Quick Strike Crimps
« on: Dec 26, 2014, 09:21 AM »
Does anyone know where I can get some metal crimps for homemade quick strike rigs? I have been unable to find them and was wondering if I am just overlooking the obvious. Thanks!

Go to http://www.jannsnetcraft.com and search for crimp sleeves

Go to http://www.basspro.com/ and search for crimp sleeves

I can find them locally in retail stores at Fleet Farm and Cabela's. At Fleet Farm they are near the leader material in the fishing line aisle.

If you're using uncoated wire you don't need crimps. Most of the time they don't get installed correctly and either slip or weaken the wire. Check out this crimpless connection: Crimpless Stranded Wire Connection

If you're looking to crimp mono or fluoro make sure you use aluminum crimps, brass, copper and steel can cause premature failure.
To fish or not to fish? That's a stupid question!

can cause premature failure.

was just about to bring that up too.  that is why i let mine free slide on the fluorocarbon or steel leader. then i tie the hook on the end so the other treble looks off on it. when the hook slide down to the other hook  and stops on the treble hook... this is  what i call a sliding adjustable rig no crimps needed  this way you can size it to the bait on hand so the hooks are not to long or short apart ..  if you need picture of it let me know?

This is what I use in 30lb test.
http://www.basspro.com/Malin-Malon7-Nylon-Coated-Wire/product/53195/

It comes with some sleeves in the same package. You'll need more though if you're only making 2 foot leaders though. Size is .26 for 30lb test. So if it's a single barrel sleeve double the size (or close to it) for the wire.

I use these to crimp with...
