Get your self a fine tooth file and sharpen on three sides right, left and the side facing you. A sharpening stone would  also work.

I have a stone that has a groove in it specifically for sharpening hooks.
It was very cheap.

I use a stone. I put the hook of the jig/ lure in my fly tying vise then sharpen it like fishercat described.

Dr. Slick makes a real nice hook hone.  Wal-Mart should have a couple too.  I like the kind that look like a ball-point pen.  They make it easy to get into tight places and sharpen little jigs.

My line stripper (think it was made by berkley) has a wheel on top that works great. You have to be careful though, you can grind a hook down to nothing in a flash. I just lightly bump the end of the hook to the stone on three sides and you can hang the hook on your finger nail. I haven't seen one of these with the wheel for a couple years though. Too bad, this was one of the best ones out there.

My sentiments are the same as ifishhi:

i like the pen shape (orange color) with 2 grooves down each side and is diamond coated.  I bought mine at Bass Pro Shops.
