Getting a small permanent down a hill
« on: Dec 12, 2014, 06:41 PM »
Anyone have any fancy ideas on getting a 8x8 hut down a small hill?   We have a small set of 15 or so stairs down to our dock.  Outside of carrying it with 4 guys I was thinking of lowering down via the winch from the 4 wheeler.

Any ideas or experience I this would be great

How far is the nearest boat launch? With a 4 wheeler might be easier to haul it around

About 8 similar diameter logs, 3-4 strong guys and a long rope and a 4 wheeler or truck.

Tie rope to hut, then to 4 wheeler.  Jack hut up, put 4-5 logs underneath, slowly lower house on logs.  As hut "rolls" down hill on the logs, use 4 wheeler or extra people to control its speed. When it rolls "off" a log, your people run around and put it in front of house.

Yup, and the logs getting stuck on/in the stairs.     :woot:

Not to be unkind, but, may I say, JEEZ !  ?

Hali_b, turn the logs to be up and down the hill/stairs, anchor the wheeler to something SOLID, then use it's winch to let, (slowly) the hut down the hill/stairs/logs.     ;)2

Let's hope the winch cable is long enough.

Are these wood stairs if so screw some 2x4 to them so the shack has something to slide on. Then use a truck and tow strap and slowly let it slide down the steps

The winch idea would probably work but instead of head on, I would feel more comfortable using a tree as a fulcrum.

Yup.  Or tie off the hitch of the wheeler to something uphill so it cant slide with the shanty.

Things went well.   Nothing got broke and no one got hurt, so I'd consider it a good move.   I ended up using the 4wheeler winch and tied off to my truck for added support.       Screwed a couple 2x4's to the stairs to act as runners as suggested by icer16 and for once things went exactly as planned with no issues.   No pics though

Couple more weeks and then it will be on the ice

Thanks for the suggestions fellas

Glad I could help you out and that it all went according  plan (usually doesn't)   Hope you can get out and catch some fish with it.
