Black Lake BS Thread
« on: Dec 10, 2014, 01:18 PM »
I feel this thread needed to be started so the reports/condition board won't get full of BS and cause temper tantrums.  ::)  Anyway, I wish for a long, and productive ice season on Black Lake.  ;D

Yes it is. I fished it for the first time last year and had a blast. I was limited to Rollway Bay last season but I hope to fish more of the lake this year.

It's a great place to fish if you know the water or it can be a huge pain in the butt if you don't. Depends on what you want to target as well.

For those interested in an update for Black Lake.  Ice conditions reported range from open holes to up to 4 inches of ice in places.  People have been venturing out.  Would recommend walking only at this point.  Some snow and slush on ice.  As always areas of pressure ridges and current are least safe.  Happy fishing everyone.

Do you think that ice could be better on Mile Arm? It is alittle further north.

I will be heading up to Black Lake on December 29th and will be staying nearby overnight and fishing the 30th.  Looking for some help in finding a spot to get access to the lake with parking and hopefully not too long of a walk out.  Looking to target crappies and gills, and also would like to know of any nearby baitshops.  Any help in general would be appreciated.  Fish safe and thanks for the help.

The ice could be better on Mile Arm... not because its farther north (its at the south west end) but because its sheltered. Acsess is difficult unless you know someone. @)

Ah, yes, the good old days when there was no gate and you could drive in to Mile Arm.  But, camp owners finally had enough of the slobs and that was that.

Me too. Even with permission... written permission, you still get harrassed. :-\

same here! the same guy comes out every time we park at a private camp with permission!
he lives there all year! he calms down when he realizes.....with permission there is nothing he can do about it!
obviously we leave no trash and clean up any junk if we see it! not a good idea to go there without permission!!!
he watches that place like a hawk!

;D  Had a run-in with that guy.  What an AH!   >:(  Still not easy access.  That can be a long treacherous drive.  The other side is shorter and walkable but still all private.  Wouldn't it be nice if the State bought some access in there and opened it up?  Nice in there in the soft-water season too.  Gets you away from what can be a very rough main lake and into some decent fishing territory.

Hey thinking about taking my father out to Black Lake in search of some pan fish this weekend. I have only been there once in the spring for crappie. Looking for a report or any pointers. I know a lot of guys are tight lipped up there so any info would be greatly appreciated even through a p.m.  - Thanks  Mikey ice Fish

Does anyone know if Fish Creek Bait Shop in RT.58 is open. His shop was right ip the road from rollaway bay. I lost his number from last year and can't find him on the Internet anywhere.

Thanks kidretro. That's probably my best bet buying bait at chapmans and asking for info in person rather than calling
