I'm hoping to get out there second weekend in december. last year I was on the ice by late november but I don't think it will happen this year since it's a bit warmer.

You heard wrong. Not sure about this weekend. Drove out to carols last weekend. Just a couple of rocks thrown on the ice, no holes.

Any ice depth reports from the flats or big lake? I'd like to take my shack out next weekend via snowmobile if there is 7" or more.

4 of us caught a limit of walleye last Firday,  a couple 9 lbers and lost 1 big girl. There is 9 inches of ice at the mouth of the Petaign. But proceed with caution,

I myself have never fished up on Tobin, and want to take a trip up to try and hunt down some walleye, where is my best starting point, access to the lake, and I place not to far from shore? Preferred in an area with a few other anglers in sight. As I'm not familiar with the body of water.
The ice angler is a different breed of fisherman. Undeterred by distance, daylight or degrees, these warriors go to extreme measures to chase down the fish attempting to wait out winter below the frozen surface. Through 10-inch holes positioned amidst miles of ice they engage the elusive walleye one-by-one, yeah it's crazy, and some may never understand it.

lots options avail to u, as mentioned good starting point is at the resort easy access good trail to the left or good trail to the right will take u out to the hump both will be well traveled trails.  other options are prudents point or carrols cove on the north side of the lake both also have easy access and good number of shacks and ppl if u run into trouble

this is a picture of the road onto the flats today, there is a big drift there. First ones are going to have to shovel or take a big run at it.

It's probably soft, just plow through it and let us know if you make it  ;)

Glad I have this to get to my spots this year
