Long rods?
« on: Oct 25, 2014, 09:48 AM »
Just wondering who like to fish with long rods on the ice, and if so what do you use?

What are your thoughts?

I love the concept, especially early ice or in shallow water!

I use long rods almost exclusively. I make all of mine either from blanks or by modifying Ice Blues. Some run the line thru the blank, some have guides and Schooley reels. The Schooleys allow me to fight fish, the thru blank rods are just plain fast and convenient when fishing shallow panfish. I mostly fish back waters on the Mississippi and Wisconsin Rivers.

I usually keep a couple long rods rigged up with different colors when i go out,  makes switching up presentations easier. we use them in up to 8ft of water or so, after that it gets a lil tough.

One of each!  Line thru blank for windy days and still presentation, line thru eyes when presentation doesn't matter!
