I hate to say it, as I'm still up for ice fishing, and blizzard today not withstanding, spring has sprung on the North Park lakes. We went out Saturday to John. Still 20" on the lake itself, but the edges are going very soft. Put a boot through the ice in about 2' of water, and the slush everywhere makes walking quite tricky. North Delaney may still be good for another week or so. It seemed very solid that morning, but we got skunked there.
That said, we did have a good time fishing by the Lake John spillway in the afternoon. Caught five decent 16-17" trout - 4 bows and one cutbow. I don't normally keep fish, but since it was the last trip of the year, my buddy wanted to take some home for the smoker. Notice how black the cutbow is in the last pic. Apparently it is part of a strain they have in the hatchery near Cowdrey. The jawjackers actually outcaught our hand jigging.
