Wow that would be scary, makes you think however.  I have been jigging in my pop up heard sleds and never even looks out the window just seems like a second nature thing.  .08 isn't much alchol I believe the speed is a little more to blame excessive speed blurs thing that little bit extra.  Atleast no one was hurt.

I was sleeping out on Sacandaga last season. A roaring noise work me up at 3am. Snowmobile. It was close but didn't think much of it. Went back to sleep. I was in an Eskimo Fat Fish. In the morning, I looked for tracks. He had been within three feet of me. Thank goodness I had glow sticks and trail marker (coleman) lights on the shanty. I was lucky!

I know a bwi is not really a big deal so I would imagine a swi is the same. Just a parks and recreation ticket that's not a criminal offense and has no impact on your drivers license

wrong oh.swi is a true Dwi infraction as of last year.comes with points on the license as well as possible loss of driving priveledges.they have really got serious with this in the last year as the wackos on sleds on tug hill were starting to raise havoc.

Actually, you can fix stupid. Unfortunately, law enforcement objects, for some strange reason, to putting a 20 gauge slug into the skull of the stupid one. LOL

This is crazy.  I fish Mayville often and the snowmobilers show no respect for the ice fishermen.  It's pretty sad that we can't even spend time in the outdoors away from idiots like this.  They have miles and miles of trails across the region on land and they feel they need to go 100mph through a bunch of innocent ice fishermen on the lake.  I think they think that we look at them and say "WOW that person is sooo cool, look how fast they can drive in a straight line" lol. I think the owners of these things are the same people that drive their jetski 10yds away from your boat in the summer time.  Don't get me wrong, I do know many responsible snowmobilers, but the majority shows no respect for others, the land they are using, or their own machines.

I hate when snowmobilers decide to use my tip-ups as a slalom course! or guys on wheelers who have to do dounuts 50 yards from you for hours on end.

The snowmobile trail system in NY goes from bar to bar.  They are not all drinking hot cocoa in those bars.   Alcohol + machines capable of going 100+ mph = recipe for trouble.  Even if only .5% of sledders had a little too much to drink that amounts to one out of every 200.  I saw at least 300 sleds or more by the old train station across from the bar in Mayville Saturday during the few hours I was fishing.  The odds are unfortunately not in your favor sitting in a shanty in the dark on Chautauqua Lake on a Saturday night.  They are also not in your favor if you are wading for walleyes at night in the springtime or trolling around in a little cartop boat with no lights either.  People with fast boats, fast sleds and other fast toys seem to enjoy going really fast at night.
Knowing this I would never be out on that lake at night, winter or summer, without enough lights to be readily seen.  It's not a guarantee of safety but you have to at least try.

yea lucky no one got hurt. Sad to say that this is reality. There is always someone out there with disregard for others safety. I stopped drinking years ago because it got old waking up feeling like s  t and counting my blessings i made it home without a DWI or killing me or someone else. I have nothing against drinking but for Christ sakes do it responsibly.

I wonder why the Sherriffs Dept or DEC doesn't have a sled patrol out there requlating these people. I bet if they had a unmarked sled or a person spotting in the parking lot they could control there behavior. Even if they had one sitting off to the side on the lake, a person watching in the parking lot reporting to that person, they could capitalize on the problem?
What's it going to take a person being killed or multiple people.

Im always on edge when I hear sleds rip by me on the ice, I swear I won't hesitate to close line someone with my auger. There seems to be a lot of disrespectful sledders on Chautauqua Lake.
Thank god those guys are alright.
