Indiana style, week of vacation
« on: Dec 15, 2005, 10:16 PM »
Well I took a week of vacation this past week from work, and how nice it was to not have to go to work.  When you wake in the morning your only worries are getting the Vex battery charged and hoping the bait shop still has spikes.  I made it out everyday from Saturday up until today.  Fished 2.5 to 3 hours each day, from 1:30 to 4:30 ish except one day I fished for about 5 hours.  Always off the ice by 4:30, so I never got to experience the 5 o'clock bite, but thats ok, I did decent and had plenty of fun.  Caught mostly bluegill with a good amount of redears mixed in, and a few pumpkinseeds as well, and more than enough of those damn annoying green carp, today is the only day I didn't catch at least half a dozen.   I cleaned 153 fish this week, not including todays catch, I gave todays 30 to another shanty member, and I am now tired of cleaning fish.  Also met up with a few fellow iceshanty.com members on a couple of the days.

A mess o gills, makes my freezer messo full.  Once I get back to work, I will have it empty, lots of guys at work love fish, but they don't have the balls to go ice fishing, so therefore they aren't real fisherman, because like I say, "real fisherman don't yield to the weather."

the life of a union pipefitter            billybono

I too am a union man, its supposed to be a temporary job as I search for a "professional" job, but its lasted 2 years now.

HT Marmooska jig    green/chart   size 14,   didn't like factory gap, so I bend it open just a big more, but definately a great jig.
I actually work 2nd shift hours and don't have to be at work until 4 pm, so even when not on vacation I can get up early and get several hours of fishing in, and the lake I fish a lot is only 35 miles away, just up the interstate.

So I take it the allergic reaction to the fish is gone?  If I recall correctly over the years I have read in the past you said you were allergic to fish.

But more importantly, where are those crappie?????  I haven't caught a single one yet, probably because I haven't been fishing during their most active hours, but I figured I would have at least got a few stray ones.

Yeah, well where I work the pension is great, benefits are great, money is good, and the people are great, however, I would like to use my degree since I did put myself in enough debt to get it, and still paying my way out of it.

I figured out at the end of the last ice season that I was no longer allergic to fish...I've been eating them since. ;D

For as much as you fish, I bet it cuts down on the grocery bill quite a bit huh.

Nice pictures. Thanks for sharing. With a freezer filled like that, I wish I was your neighbor. Enjoy!
This picture forum makes the wait for good solid ice almost tolerable.

I like to keep it simple when I do cook my fish, of course always deep fried.  I use a couple cups of flour and mix in a packet of taco or fajita seasoning, coat the fillets, then fry.  Pretty simple.
