Columbus guy needs ice fishing spot
« on: Dec 15, 2005, 02:45 PM »
I need some GOOD Advice on where to ice fish. I live in the Columbus, OH area. I have asked around but no one really gives a straight answer. I am really glad i found you fellow ice fishermen out there to help me out. I have fished big and small water in Minnesota and I am pretty ready for anything, except Erie (hiring a guide in Jan.)
Can somone please HELP!? Buckeye, Indian, Allum, WHERE?

Welcome to Ohio ice fishing. Hopefully, the ice godz will favor us this year....Buckeye Lake around Fairfield Beach and Indian Lake up towards Bellefontaine are tow good ice fishing lakes...I fish Buckeye Lake alot...Look for a Shappell 3000 with an American Flag posted to the top...that will be either myself or my son, Sam. We fish alot and enjoy the time on the ice...By the way, I also enjoy Lake of Woods, MN...Maybe we can get together to tell fishun' stories on the ice...Stop by to introduce yourself at Buckeye!

Thanks guys! It looks like Buckeye is a good spot. I went to Gander Mountain to look at ice stuff, not much of a selection there. Are there any bait shops on Buckeye that are "stocked up"?

Minnesotaboy, you might want to check out Buckeye Outdoors, last year they had the Frabill portables. they might have live bait as well.

Buckeye Outdoors on North SR79 just north of I-70 by Buckeye Lake would be a good place to shop for a portable along with many other ice fishing items...if you want a road trip..head north to Dundee,MI, for a Cabelas shopping trip....Good luck in finding the right ice fishing shelter for you!

What kind of a portable are you looking for? I have a clam two man on a sled I will let go cheat ($100.00), because I travel for a living I had to buy one that would fold flat so I could take it with me.
