I use the milk crate too. But I cut the floatation "noodles" & lashed them to the outside of the crate using long zip-ties. The "noodles" are hollow in the center & I just cut a slice out of them to hold the rod handle w/ the heel of the reel sitting in the slice. Works great & weighs nothing.

Those work great, 4 on my wall horizontally downstairs to hold my rods, and 2 in parallel vertical in my boat. Never thought of using them like that!!!

I use a similar system, but run them horizontally inside a large tote (wouldn't work with rods over 32".  I have the six rod version and alternate which side the reel is on.  Great system and no tangled lines!  Nice vid!
